Censorship in Thailand
Just a quick rant this is, a rant on internet censorship in general and Thai censorship in particular.
It's just frustrating for a geek like yours truly, to have to jump through hoops to get a tool like tor.
Fair enough, anonymity software sort of helps people who want to do bad stuff, but censorship doesn't actually prevent anyone sufficiently dedicated to get what they want, it's just a mild deterrent.

The recent events with youtube and His Majesty King Bhumibol are unfortunate, but do they justify this? Feel free to share your feelings on the matter.

I don't know why thailand censors have got rid of youtube, youtube has got rid of the video. On the king of the Apes site, there is now a ten minute loooonng blurb about the responsabilites of freedom of speech and opinion. It accuses of racism, irresponsibility and basically defends the right to curb freedom of speech and expression.
The blurb also says that thailand has censored youtube because they fear for foreign tourists' safety... so watch out lol!
oh, a couple of stills from the video are available if you search a bit. King looks like George Bush if you ask me. Might add that the Swiss guy (57) who did the pictures has got ten years in prison, which seems rather over the top.
Ja! And although he was let off, it still doesn't look good. The poor guy must've had a big scare, and the image of the monarchy hasn't been improved...

First thing first, the equation is too complex, as a matter of fact, it can't be solve like that. However no one says we can't feed the debate !
On one hand you have this absolute, georgous, and astronomical tool, call the Internet.
On the other hand you get, like everywhere, 'evil' people doing bad stuffs. Understand activities leading to forfeiture.
So, how do you want to keep this place cool ? Indeed there is a lot of shocking things out there, like the one who prevents you sleeping. Howto prevents those malicious contents beeing a clic or two away from your home sweet desktop ?
Now how do you define a 'shocking thing' ? There will be disagreement 'til the end of the days.
Finally, who is wise enough to found restrictions ? Does people are able to auto-control this ecosystem in order to prevent missuse ?

Does a tool like tor works over-there ?
About the anonymity concept, too oftenly misunderstanded, you can find good information on the no log isp site. 'Votre vie privée, si vous vous en fichez, vous en serez privé !'
On your particular situation, remember to try respect personal belief, and balances pros and cons of sentences out-of-context. Maybe this leader of technologies follows an A_ logic (read an A with a dash on the top of it). Who knows :)
In short, what tells us this blog isn't also censorshiped !!
Interestingly, the Thai ministry of Information and Communication has corrected the errors visible in the posts screenshot. Now, youtube points to their site. Considering the wild popularity of youtube worldwide, it is not completely inconceivable that the ministry is using the youtube domain to boost their visibility.
The video and comments on this link are quite entertaining for a tiny minute. Of course, the whole issue is becoming a bit tired. Let's move on :)
